if you could have (for free) any rifle to have, but you coul only keep that rifle and no other guns that you alredy have. what would you get. what calibre would you get it in. (im trying to maybe get an idea for a new rifle if i can afford it)
I would get a Remington model 710 in .270 calibre

If I was limited to one rifle, I might go for a Remington Model 700 in 7mm-08. Not sure which of the 700'sthough.

LH mauser (bent bolt) in 30-06...or 7X57...or 6.5X55. In a flame/curly maple stock with accented grip cover and forearm tip. Bead-blasted stainless with express sights and some crazy-expensive Swarovski scope on whatever the newest/lastest/greastest/most-bestest quick-detach rings.
OOhh, you meant an actual gun that is being made?
Kimber...or see if Tac-Ops can do a hunting setup.

You said 1 rifle-by BATFE terms that is 1 reciever. That said,I can have as many barrels and calibers as I want with thompson center encore. However,to keep it fair,I would stick with a 7mm bullet in whatever flavor cartridge. Do yourself a favor and stay away from the rem 710. Save your money and get a decent rifle and it will outlast not only you, but also your kid or grandkid. The rest of your life is a longggg time to kick thyself in the butt for NOT getting what you want or need, especially when you break it down by the years of possible use.

SB, you hit it right on the money, why take the easy way into a rifle by getting the cheapest thing possble? You can get guns that maybe arn't expensive and will last many seasons, like a Savage, or you can waste your money and get a 710.[&:]

The rifle I want most at this point - regardless of price - is a Ruger #1 in 270 Weatherby Mag.

Or you could get a Savage in .270 WSM, and have almost identical ballistics, and pay $300 less for the gun.
