I just had some work done by Aquila Precision out of Texas. He did a great job, I was very pleased. Check out his website. www.aquilafirearms.com

Give the Remington custom shop a look. They are the Remington experts.

I have been looking into this for some time now. Iwant a 308 instead of 7mm-08. I would rather have someone in the same area as I am do the work. Iam having a custom AR-15 upper built in California. Lets just sayI have learned my lesson. I have found two inKansas that appear tobe reputable.

I have not made a final decision yet, but I haven't started buying parts either. I want to see what mistakesI made with my AR beforeI build my hunting rifle.

spencer0071:

What lower are you going to use for the AR?? I want to build one in .243 but all the California legal lowers don't work.

I have had a few rifles built by local gunsmiths. And from now on, no more. I took a look a Melvin Forbes NULA. Finest lightwight rifles available in my opinion. Shoots like a freaking benchrest gun. You can get it for 3K.

To me, that hobby of collecting custom rifles is too pricey, I think a regular gun can kill anything as good, if not better than a custom rifle.

Why did you choose that riflemaker? I'm just curious.

RE: custom rifle

mostly by recommendation from past customers of the company and his shop is only about 2 hrs. from my house. I would rather spend my money close to home {Missouri} and be able to pick the rifle up myself so if there are any issues I can deal with them face to face and not have to play phone or e-mail tag as I have had to in the past. chad

Yup, your right. Each rifle job for him is different...depending on how you want a rifle spec'd out. In my opinion, a reputable custom rifle person cannot list prices...when he/she is doing jobs based on customer requests.

best of luck

Chad, IMHO...you cannot go wrong with Chris. He did a great job buildingus a competition/hunting rifle around an OLD .308rem 700 action.

best of luck
