Your Favorite Handgun

For those who hunt with and carry handguns, Whats your favorite? The last one you would part with? Consider its use as a carry for self defense against two and four legged varmits. Its ability to be carried at all times and its ability to stop a fight.

Although no one handgun fills all these needs perfectly, My first choice and last to go would be my Taurus 44 Magnum Ultra-Lite Titanium 4 inch revolver. With Bullets available from 165 grains to 355 grains its as versitile as it gets. While a little large, it weighs only 26 OZ.

For Defense against the human varmits, I carry it loaded with 200 grain HP 44 Special loads whish are easy to shoot and have controllable recoil. For Defense in the woods, I have different loads but my favoorite is the 300 Grain Gas checked WFN lead bullet. I need a taller front sight for this load for targets but its a powerful load that I load to about 1100 fps for the Ultra-lite.

S&W builds a simular Ultra-Lite but so far the Taurus has been a very good shooter and very reliable for about 300.00 less than the S&W.

There would be better guns for special uses but this one could fill all my needs. It has trhe best factory grip that I have seen.

Picked up an HK P2000 in .40 S&W over the summer and gotten pretty attached to it. Nice carry piece, not too big to conceal, not too small to haveissues with proper grip, and pretty lightweight on top of it all. Feels right and shoots very well.

Other than that, I have a thing for my Grandpa's stainless Ruger GP-100, but that's more of a trail gun to me than a concealed carry piece.

When I am not carrying, just shooting or hunting medium sized game, I love my Smith & Wesson Model 27 in .357 with 4" barrel.
For Defence work, it is my Glock Model 23. although my Rossi .38 Snubby sometimes comes along with me a s well.

What I usually have with me is my HK USP Compact .40, var. 9. But my favorite carry gun has been a Colt Mark IV Series 80, Stainless .380 plus II. They are a great carry gun.

God Bless

Oh my.

For CCW I love my H&K USP in 40 s&w. though I've got my eye on a Paraordanice compact with the Light double action. It is butter smooth.

But, When you throw the "Last one I would part with" in there its a no brainer. I would never part with my custom 45 acp. Its a Double Stack 1911. Caspian Slide, STI frame, match grade barrel, High Capacity Mags, polished slick as ice....Sweet piece to shoot. I wouldn't want to carry it in the small of my back but hey on the hip deters trouble for sure.

I've actually never carried a handgun in the woods, unless plinking squirrels with a 22 counts.

S&W 686+ (7 shot / 357 mag) 6"... std hunting load is 158 grain XTP's in front of 16.5 (sometimes a wee bit more) grains of 296... if you don;'t hit em (which you will she is a tack driver)... you'll surely blind em, deafen em or down right cause them to go into shock when she goes off...

actually it's pretty lethal inside of 50 yds on deer... see if i can dig up a photo from the last one shot with this load in the neck @ 30 yds... pretty impressive...

My favorite handgun, and the one I will never part with, is my Les Baer Custom .45 ACP. I bought the Concept III, when I graduated college. It shoots as good as it looks. It's a work of art, in my opinion.

That being said, my Glock 20 goes with me more often. The Glock 10mm has more firepower and a more durable finish than my LB. I don't feel guilty if it gets wet or dirty. The Glock is my working gun. A tool.
