seriously, is there any difference big enough to where you would change your mind from .270 win to a .270 wsm. i ask because i am looking to purchase a rifle, but unsure right now of the pros and cons of the wsm? thanks

I think if the goal was a lightweight rifle, a short action 270wsm would be a better starting point than a long action 270win.

If you're looking for just your standard rifle, they're pretty close, I believe the wsm shoots 150grs at the same speed the win shoots 130grs.

Course I'm pulling for the wsm to really catch on, would be hard to go either way IMO.

If I had to lay money on which would still be around in 30years, I think the smart money is on the 270win, the wsm? I think it should be, but it's newer, so you never know, but I think the 270 and 300wsm should be around.

Since you're antelope hunting, you might have some fairly long shots. If you reload, get the 270 WSM as it will give you a flatter trajectory, and isn't any more difficult to reload than any other round.

Ding ding we have a winner. 80 +years worth of dead game and flawless service says that we dont need a new .270. It doesnt suffer from feeding issues, loud muzzleblast and you can buy ammo at any Mom and Pop place in the U.S

May not need it but man having options make it great. I have both a 270 win and a 270 wsm. I also own a 300 win and a 300 wsm. Oh and an 8mm remington mag and a 325 wsm. Cant forget the 25-06 and 25 wssm. I own 8 guns where 4 would be all I need. But saying I own 8 guns is way cooler than saying I own 4. What one gun will do the other will too. They all shoot good and none of mine have any feeding issues. Pick one and dont look back or second guess that you got the wrong one.

I have a BAR .270win, and am strongly looking to buy a .270wsm mtn/sheep rifle in the near future...

so IMO that BAR is a heavy .270win, vs. a lightweight 270wsm...I would tend to want to buy a new cartridge than double up on something, though I suppose in some cases it makes sense...

You can always sell one or the other I figure...course my bar270 shoots great so i probably wouldnt be able to part ways with it simply for having a .270wsm as well,

whats the difference in the price of brass for the wsm compared to the standard 270 brass

The price of the short mag ammo is quite a bit more. To me, its worth a little more because I like the short throw of the bolt. But, its a good 10-20 dollars/box more depending on the type, brand of ammo.

Sounds like the OP just needs to use premium Bonded type bullets more, those Cheap 10-20 dollars per 20 rounds are for your basic plinking and yote not much more.

The Short Magnums real advantage lies in reloading. They take 40-50 grain charges to do the work of a full blood magnum. And they will fit in a short length action so that is a plus.
Just use premium Bonded bullets and work on that shot placement. If you are shooting the right spot even a .300 win super duper mag should not be screwing up any meat aside from some ribs/lungs and heart. That is my 2 cents, thanks for reading!!!


P.S. The .270 is a LASER baby!! I bet the WSM version is even better.
