Pre 64 Model 70 Winchester .458 Win Mag

I am being offered this rifle for a price of 300$, I know the gun is worth a lot more than this, should I tell the guy thats selling it to me, or just take it? The guy selling it obviously doesn't do guns, it was his grandpa's who passed away recently.

Dude, I can't believe you would even have to ask for opinions.

Taking advantage of someone like that is wrong. Period.

Kharma is a m*ther f**ker too...so just keep that in mind next time youneed advice on financial matters should you decide to off this guy for a couple grand.

I just got off the phone with him, he says he doesn't care if he's getting screwed, he won't have any use for it. Plus, I think it reminds him of his papa a lot.

Well, it is good that you at least told him of the money he stood to lose. Depending on condition and grade, that gun may well be worth upwards of 10 large. Its a good buy for sure. If he doesn't mind losing out on that kind of cash, well, a gift is a gift.

As a token of good faith, I would try and find out exactly what this guy likes to do or something. You know, if he is into fishing or something, buyhim a nice new reel or something like that. Just a get and give back.

Hold on to that gun when you shoot it.

I'm actually hoping it kicks less than my .458 Ruger # 1. I am going to buy him a guided striper fishing trip, as a token.

Heh, heh. Ya that will be an adventure to pull the trigger on that pup. Sometimes, when you lose a family member, it hurts to keep something around even though it is of value. So you try to find it a new home. Been through that myself.

I'm actually going to load some light loads for it, like I did with my #1, 350 Gr. at 2200 or 2300 fps, didn't kick TOO bad. Took a deer this year with 300 Gr. Handloads.

Dropped on the spot, bullet exploded heart, both lungs, liver, and severed spinal cord. the 300 Gr was at 2600 FPS.
