Gun choice?

I want a lever action rifle. AllI here about is the 30-30 and the 44 mag.
What are some other calibers and what do you guys think about them?

The Browning BLR is chambered in a variety of calibers from 22-250 to the 450 Marlin. I believe the best fit for the BLR is the 7-08 Rem.or .308 Winchester. Now if you're wanting a moreclassic lookinglever action, the Marlin 1895 in 45-70 is hard to beat.

Hmm...what will you use it for? Just to have...or deer, or bear/deer? The BLR is a fine design and you can find them in just about any popular "bolt-action" caliber. The marlins are all pretty good guns, if you don't handload but could use the extra umph of a 45-70 look at the 444marlin and 450marlin. (they're pretty much a 45-70 redone in a newer design so that companies can take full advantage of its potential without blowing up the old war rifles that are chambered in 45-70) If its just for deer and paper punching its hard to beat either the 30-30 or 44mag. I suppose the 30-30 might give you another 25...maybe 50 yards of effective range.

I agree with Soil.

I have a Win 94 in 30/30 Ackley Improved. Its a great rifle. Shoots regular 30/30's, dumps out brass that you can handload to the same velocities as a 308. Great little performer well suited for medium sized game. Mine shoots far better than any lever rifle should, even with that short little 18" barrel.

Recently, the 444 and the 450 have been very popular. The 30/30 and 45/70 always have been. There are a few other less heard of performers of note, mainly the 7-30 waters and the .307 Winchester. Both were once chambered by winchester, and at some point may have been by Marlin as well. Either is comparable to the 30/30 Ackley. The edge that I give to the Ackley, is that 30/30 win ammo is ubiquitous as coyotes, mosquitos, and Yankees in the south; and you don't have to shoot Ackley ammo in an Ackley gun to stay in business.
