RE: too noisey
I appreciate the help guys. I forgot about the 32 and 32-30 that winchester made. Has anyone used the new core lokt 357/44 from remington or are they safe to use in a tube magazine?
I figure the semi hacjeted would be safe since the soft tip but I'm not too sure about what looks like a full copper jacket on them. |
RE: too noisey
Could this be an opportunity for you to get into reloading and load down some rounds for the rifles you already have?
Just a thought. Tom |
RE: too noisey
I'll dare to be different: take up archery hunting. You could shoot a deer off of his roof and as long as you tred lightly getting down he'll never even roll over.
But, if you want to stick with a gun, a 30/30 would be good. Or if you want to follow my example of being different, look up a 300 Whisper. |
RE: too noisey
45-70 with the longest barrel you can find. Also a 38-55. H & R makes a really nice single shot with a very long barrel. Also very accurate rifles. I you hand load, try bullseye or red dot powder. I shoot a "cat sneeze" load in my 45-70 consisting of 3.0 grains of red dot, and a 454 round ball. At 25 yards you can hear the ball hit the cardboard, and you can hear the hammer drop. This load is shot out of a Browning 1885. If anyone is skeptical, please try it before you critique what I have suggested. I deer hunt with my 1885, and I can shoot small game and yotes while hunting, without alarming game. Try it guys, it is a lot of fun. Tom.

RE: too noisey
If you are willing to limit your shooting distance to 20-30 yards there is a load of archery equipment to choose from. I can confidently say try it you will not regret it.

RE: too noisey
I find myself agreeing with a couple of the suggestions with a possible twist. I agree with the .30-.30 for a rifle, but also agree that archery sounds like a good plan as well. The twist being use a crossbow if legal to use in your state.

RE: too noisey
hrmmm 45-70 now that is a serious hog gun. I've never done any rifle reloadingjust shotshells for ducks...rifle reloading looks to be a little more complicated.
How would this do...i see remington has 30-30 listed in their managed recoil shells. The reduced powder in those should quiet down a 30-30 I'd think. Anyone with any experience with these?? I'll consider the archery I think next year. The season is about to start here so I dont think I'd have the time to get as good as I'd want to before the itch got too bad to be in the woods. |
