Default favorite bullet for whitetail

I am new to gun hunting (just shot my first couple deer with a shotgun).

I was looking at some land where I may be able to hunt with a rifle and was wondering what everyones favorite whitetail round was.

I am kindoff partial to smaller rounds. Is a .223 to small of a round for a farther (200-300 yard) shot?

Maybe a 243 or a 260 would be good choices. If you try the 243 stick with the heavier bullets. In either case place them well.

The 223 is legal in our state but its on the small side. My personal minimum is the 100 grain bullet from a 25 caliber. Were I to use a 223, I would limit shots to 200 yatrds max and then only with the Barnes bullet or the Nosler Partition.

Are we talking about bullets or rifle calibers?

Caliber 7mm-08

Bullet Barnes TSXB or the old standby Sierra Game King

i like a 30-30 rifle shell from hornady its good for two hundred yards not much but around here where i live you will be lucky if you can get a clear shot that far away

I agree with James B. Though both of us hunt areas where the whitetail and mule deer are larger body types than in the southern areas. Even so I don't think a 22cal has any place in the deer woods and especially not when 300 yards shots may be used!!

As far as bullet I prefer the Nosler Ballistic tip for deer, due to accuracy and longer ranges may be required here on the prairies.
