Its pretty hard to beat the .308 for all around deer hunting. Its accurate, effective, and widely available at almost all local stores. The recoil is very tolerable, and gun choices are very broad. You won't be disapointed.

130 grain Core Lokts 270 and 243 heavier grains. 223 is too light. That don't mean you won't bag a deer with the 223 but I suggest hunting with heavier caliber. You choose what you want, you are your own man boy.

7mm-08 is good.
.223 is a varmit round, not deer. Guys have shot deer with .22-250s and the deer still get away. At the very least, get a .243, it's a great deer round, and the 7mm-08 is like the .243's bigger brother. Both are great whitetail rounds.

This was last years buck. I took it with a .22 Hornet, and do so on a regular basis.

223 is a little small but with proper placement works just fine. I killed 8 deer with 223 and never lost one. Use a premium bullet and keep your shot 150yd or closer and you'll be fine.
