As long as one barrel is choked to no greater a constriction than IC, than you may use that barrel (probably your right barrel if you have a field grade gun). Never shoot a slug out of a choke that is tighter than IC. Cyl or SKT are preferable. Make sure you shoot "rifled" slugs out of a smooth bore, and "sabot" slugs out of a rifled bore.

thanks for the info. i havent found anything stamped on the barrels as far as the chokes but it is a 60's J.C. Higgins that was my grandfathers

Take a penny and stick in the end of the barrel. If it will fit down the end of the barrel youre good. If it just barely, barely catches youre still good. Anything more and its probably a mod. choke. (thats the po-boys choke test;)) Different maker's have different 'exact' dimensions though. It would still be best to try and find it written on the barrel somewhere.

thanks for all the helpi have found out that the left is mod and the right is full and that out to about 50 yards the old gun will do well with a slug in the right after the new year ill be gettinga slug gun so this wont be a problem again
