:) Hey guys I value you alls advice, you have never let me down yet. I have found this gun at a local gun shop and really like the feel and looks, but no history on the gun. Are they a shooter are not? This one is a 30-06 ,good bluing, wood stock has a few nicks in it here and there. Price $ 315 with an older busnell 3to 9 scope. Can you give me some advice.Many thanks.

I had one in 243. It was a pretty good rifle. They were not as well made as the regular Model 70 but it was worth the money.

I have a 670 carbine in a 30-06 and love the rifle, it shoots real well with the right load. Although I think 315.00 is plenty for it you are getting a scope with it. The last book I have lists it a 300.00 in 100% condition.

I dont think you would go wrong with it if you could get for a few bucks less. Let us know how you make out, and how it shoots if you end up with it.

I took the cheap birch stock off and installed a Winchester synthetic stock (with blind magazine of course). The gun looks great. I will hunt with itnext week after sighting it in. The 670 is a push feed not a controlled feed but I haven't had any problems feeding or ejecting rounds with it. I put a Simmons Aetec 2.5X-10X 44mm scope on it with Millet rings and bases. So far everything looks good.

The 670 was an econo version of the model 70. It had a plain birch stock and non-hinged floor plate. It is still a post-64 style model 70. The price I've seen this for at local gunshows was in the $200-250 range and most had cheap end scopes. I would try to get the price down before I purchased the rifle.

My grandpa gave me his 670Aso I don't know on price but I agree with trying for a price reduction. I also replaced the Birch stock with a synthetic stock and modified it to free-float the barrel. I reduced the trigger weight and creep andthen scrubbed the hell out of the barrel with a strong copper solvent. These modifications took it from a mediocre rifle to a real shooter (1 MOA groups). I am happy to say that this year it will get passed down once again and become my oldest son's first deer rifle.
