Waterproofing Gun...

Had an idea, wanted to know what you all think of it. It seems as if everytime that I have a chance to go hunting it rains to some degree, I was wondering if I put a coating of Rain-X (windshield stuff) all over my gun to protect it (metal and wood) from the wx would it do any harm? Possible Pros and Cons?

Thanks

I don't think Rain-X would be a very good idea. I am not sure exactly what it's made of, but can't imagine that it would be very good for wood or bluing. CLP (Cleaner, Lubricant and Protectant) hasn't failed me yet for the metal parts of the gun. I think you can get that stuff at Wal-Mart now. A good wipe down of the wood parts when you get back to camp should do the trick for the wood.

i heard that you can put like turtle wax on your barrel and it makes the water bead on the metal. never tried it but i use a silicone cloth and do exactly what M16 teacher does.

Ghostalker,
I've been using Flitz gun wax for years. One application per year and you are good to go.

I use gun and stock wax on my gun, But IMO anytime your gun is exposed to moisture it needs to be taken apart and wiped down and cleaned if fired.
Moisture and Dirt is the enemy.
