If you are handy with wood and have the time, give making a set a try. You can truly customize them to fit you and it really isn't that hard to do.

if i were going to do it in class i who just take the grips of and take them to school, i dont think they would give you trouble for that. i have been considering making a set for myself, though i dont know what type of wood i would use

any help on wood choice? im running it by the teacher tomarow...i traced them here but still may take them in if i need to..that is if im allowed...he said no stocks but thats common sense you cant make a stock in there when other people want on the saws and you cant get the action right without some expirience...i think he just might let me do my grips....what kind of wood though?? also after they fit like a glove and are done do i stain them to my choice or what? thanx alot..

I used redwood for mine. I got it as scrap from a construction job I worked. Almost any closed grain wood will work. You can get walnut blanks fairly reasonable. I just oiled mine and didn't bother staining.
