Frozen Saftey

I just purchased a new Winchester model 70 from our Wal-Mart before they stop selling guns. I got it home and the saftey won't move. I didn't want to pry too hard and break something. Maybe it has just been sitting in the box too long? Has anyone else had this problem?

RE: Frozen Saftey

Model 70 safeties are sometimes stiff. The lever forces the cocking piece to the rear by pushing it forward. If that sounds like a square peg in a round hole,...it is. Good, positive, very SAFE, safety though.
If it doesn't work, you can always send it to Winchester or trust it to a local gunsmith. I've re-fitted a couple of Winchester safeties before.

Man that sucks to buy a new rifle and not be able to use it. Sorry to hear it. The good news is you've got a Winchester and when you get the issue corrected you're going to love it.
