Leupold/Gilmore red dot
I just noticed that Leupold has their name on a red dot scope, but I understand that this Gilmore company makes them. I am a pretty big fan of Leupold and I'm considering buying one of these for my Encore pistol chambered in the 444 Marlin.
Thoughts??? Does anyone know anything about these scopes??? |
RE: Leupold/Gilmore red dot
I've got the 35mm octagon version. I switch it between my Ruger 10/22 and my S&W M41 pistol. I like it, but I don't think it's anything special. There are cheaper red-dot sights that are good quality. I found a good deal on eBay, or I would have bought another brand. I paid $165 for my LG-35, NIB.

Thanks Dan.
Do you think it can handle the recoil? |
RE: Leupold/Gilmore red dot
I don't know about the recoil of something that big. I've never had mine on anything but a .22 rimfire. I've had cheap Tasco Red Dots quit working after exposure to .44 magnum recoil. I even had a Tasco Red Dot quit after only a few rounds from an AR-15. Needless to say, this was pretty disappointing.
Does Leupold have a customer service number you could call? |

RE: Leupold/Gilmore red dot
I own two of them. One is on my 3-1/2 inch turkey gun. The other is on my S&W Stealth Hunter(44 mag). One is about 5 years old, and the other is 3 years old. They both work great. They are not built by Leupold, and I believe they do not carry the Leupold life time warranty? Leupold is also importing some of their new binoculars also. Tom.
