Ya know, there is soo much opinion out there and some of it can be misconcieved notions and presuppositions mixed with gas station B.S. that it is tough to find what really is the true and reliable info. With that being said, I have paid attention to Field and Stream, petersons and outdoor life magazines and found there assesment of bullet choices to be reliable. A bonded bullet, no matter the manufacturer, is always going to have a penetration advantage over non bonded bullets (nosler partitions and A frames are the exceptions here). I just shot an antelope this last week with the hornady Interbonds and there was no sign of bullet fragmentation and I found no bullet pieces. This being said, I like them. You must try several bonded bullets and find which ones work best in your rifle. EJ

You're only shooting medium distances, so the ballistic tip bullets wouldn't be a great choice for deer IMO. They cost a lot and are designed for shooting very long distances; at 300yds and under, a traditionalbonded, or 'lokt' bullet would be a better choice for more effective penetration and wound channels. I agree with the recommendations for core-lokt, fusion, and interbond bullets. Partitions might cost more but are also something I would recommend.

For me..the ol plain box Classic Federals were always lethal and grouped better than anything else in my 270.

That's exactly right. For 300 yard or less shots on whitetails, it makes no sense to spend a bunch of money on premium bullets. Just get yourself a box or two of Winchester Super-X 130 gr. Power Points or some Remington Express 130 gr. PSP Core Lokt's and you're good to go.

You will notice that no one has pointed out a bullet to stay away from. Thats because any of the name brand .270 hunting loads will work. Coreloct, SST, silver tip, power points, interbond, the premium bullets, etc..all have a good track record....find the one that shoots best in your rifle and go hunting....I use 130gr Win Silver Tips. They shoot great in my Rem 700 and definately get a deer's attention....

alot of ppl are agaisnt them but i like the ballistic tips myself. i use them every year out of my 7mm remington mag and the farthest shot that ive ever had to shoot to harvest a deer was 250 yrd. they do a good quick humane kill on an animal and for that reason i love them. from shooting them for the last seven years i have found that they are very accurate as wall. you can get them in winchester supreme, federal makes some with nosler BT, the hornady sst, and i am pretty positive that remington still loads nosler ballistic tips as well. ballistic tips are the bullets that you either love or hate and i love them, wouldnt hunt if i had to hunt with anyother bullet. hope this helps. as you can see from the pic below i really do swear by their killing abilities.

Ammo is the least expensive aspect of your hunt. So spending 25 on a box instead of 15 is not that big of a deal. all up to you.

Shoot your gun with a few different brands and see what shoots best. My 270 shoots Winchester Ballistics tips the best. Federal premiums are a close second. both fine for hunting.

My 308 shoots every kind of ammo the same at 100 yards..which amazes me.depends on your gun

the hornady light magnums is a hot load and gives you 200 more feet per second and more energy. if you are taking shots at running deer then this should be considered. We track and still huntalot in the Northeast in snow so running shots are common. faster bullet gives you an edge
