ok, all of you who have been talking about the .270's has gotten to me. I loaded up the family, went to the gun shop, and bought my first rifle. bought the N.E.F. single with the wood stock. I wanted the synthetic, but the guy said that his distributor was out of stock on them until next years came out. Here in Illinois, you have to use slugs on deer, but I will sure enjoy the target shooting until a get to a state that allows center fire.
any suggestions for rings and a scope? I am on a budget and would like to stay near the lower end, but wont skimp if it is going to make a difference. Again: IT ALL YA'LLS FAULT:>)

Weaver rings and mount, look into the Simmons line of scopes.

Do me a favor and write a review in the firearms review forum after you shoot it. I can’t find anyone with one. By the way, call the H&R customer service # 978-632-9393 and check for a shotgun barrel. You’ll be surprised how inexpensive it is.
