synthetic stock

I posted this last week and was away and I read the forum lost some topics do to server change or clean up...But anyway, I was wondering about my daughters savage 2 in the 243 win model youth rifle, there isplayat the barrel and forend...It gets very noticble after about 6 rnds gets shot and the barrel warms up...The grouping was off when I rested the barrel on the gun rest,But when I shot with the synthetic of the stock was supporting the gun a got a very good grouping..The only problem with this is I have to set her on something cause the gun is now 3 inches higher on the gun rest...I was wondering if any advice on the lose forend and barrel, theres like a 1/4 inch between the barrel and forend..My other synthetic stocks on my brownings and remingtons have less than an 1/8 gap and don't sag or move around as much as this savage after been fired ... I purchaced it on the 29 of sept...Any suggestions or should I return it???We was useing win 95 GR ballistic silver tip....

ORIGINAL: Ridge Runner

bedding will fix it
RR
I thought about that, but wasn't sure if that was a good idea if something went wrong with the gun mechanically...Void the warranty I would think..Is this normal of savages and synthetic stocks???

Resting the barrel directly on the sandbag will invariably cause poor grouping. You should always rest the forearm on the bag, and always in the same spot to try to get as much repeatability as possible.
As far as the forearm seeming to be loose or sloppy, are you certain the action screws are tight? If the barrel and action are flopping around in the stock when fired, accuracy will be terrible. You might take a close look at this..........

I just checked it again and and they are tight...I would return it, but if they all are like this???I do like the removable clip and the simmons scope and rings allready mounted that came with it for 360$...Next week is youth doe season,So I need to decide what I should do here soon...If this model is reliable as for the mechanics,Should I seat it and what do you use to mark the high spots or take it to a gunsmith and have them do this??

I think a trip to the Gunsmith's is in order. You should get a hands-on evaluation of the problem from one who can see the situation first-hand. He can reccomend corrective action.

The Savage synthetic stocks are the only bad point to the ML's/rifles. They are very flimsey and tupperware like. You may be better off just getting a new aftermarket stock.

I stopped at the gun shop that I bought it from and the other same models had the same 1/4 inch play also...I called a few gunsmiths and found one who could seat it today for 40$....So I just droped it off and I can pick it up later... The model I was refering to looks more like 11 I just wrote 2 down cause it had 2 markings like roman no.1s on it....Plus I got 50% off for an adult synthetic stock also that I should order for when she grows some more....
