like most of the guys on this post i will have to agree usually packages have crappy scopes on them.naturally both brands are decent i would pick the nikon myself over the simmons, but more than likely the scopes on the guns are the cheapest model that the particular company sells. But you can always get another scope later both remington and savage are good guns id go with what you feel more comfortable shooting.

Maybe I am just a meticulous person, but never liked packages of any sort. Be it gun, travel, camera, etc. Usually, I find a product in the mix that is not up to my standards. Like my deer rifle, I bought everything separate, and I know the setup will be in use for the rest of my life, and plan to keep it and hand it down to the next generation for them to use.

I got a good deal on a package gun about 8 yrs or so ago at walmart.

A savage(it shoots real nice too))30.06 stainless/ synthetic stock etc- marked down to $250.

The scope was a very cheap one- but not plastic- abushnell- its on one ofmy 22. rifles now. ( i didnt even know they made plastic scopes- havent seen any)

I upgraded to a $40 simmions(non plastic)for that rifle for now

I would buy just the rifle and put at least a scope of the Bushnell 4200 quality on it or a Zeiss Conquest.
