Grouping Question ???
 

I have a Rem 700 adl synthetic in 25-06 the first shot hits dead on from a cold barrel but every shot after that hits about 1.5 inches high at 50yds can any of you experts tell me why or what i can do about it thanks <img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

I clean my guns everytime i go to the range usually with sweets bore cleaner both shots from a cold barrel were dead center and the other 3 were about 1.5 high i use sand bags and i have a light trigger pull so i honestly dont think its me any ideas

If every time is dead on with the first shot ,then you let the barrel cool ,clean it and are still dead on after a couple of times you will know if its you or that your gun just don't shoot with a clean barrel the same as a dirty barrel. I have friends that always shoot what they call fouling shots just before they get serious on the range .I doubt very much that the heat from one shot will distort the shooting pattern of your rifle 1 1/2&quot; @ 50 yards .

i have a remington ADL synthetic in 243 that does basicly the same thing except i get away with two shots then grouping expands.with mine its pure barrel heat.its that 22 inch sporter barrel,it is not intended for rapid firing.when at the range,working up a new load i give the barrel a minamum of 10 min in the shade between shots.after cleaning mine i always shoot several fouling shots.it will only group good after fouling.

With a new gun, I will clean it religously. After 100 or so rounds I back off on the clean after every couple shots routine. Try this sometime, after cleaning as usual, go to the range and shoot your five shots. As you say, it will probably shoot two dead on and the other three 1 1/2&quot; high. LEAVE IT ALONE. Go home or whatever, but do not clean it! Then see if it still shoots 2 on 3 off next trip. I bet it doesn't! What I am saying is that once a barrel is broke in, cleaning with sweets is not neccessary until accuracy starts to deteriate again. I have some rifles that there is hardly any difference between clean and fouled, less than 1/4&quot;, and others that take 10 to 15 shots to settle back in after cleaning.
