Slug gun scope ?
I just bought my son a H&R 20 g single shot slug gun to use on deer. Most shots here in Mass. would be under 50 yards in woods with mtn. laurel. What scope would you reccommend ? A red dot or a regular low power wide field shotgun scope ?

RE: Slug gun scope ?
Either would likely be fine. Personally, I like 2 or 4 power fixed Leupold shotgun scopes ( parallax @ 50 yds.).

I have a bushnell trophy 1.75-4x32, and I love it....great shotgun scope at a really nice price

RE: Slug gun scope ?
Nikon Pro Staff 2-7x32 shotgun scope $129.99 or the Nikon 4x Buckmaster.

Something in the 1-4 power range.
I wouldn't use a red dot just becasue of it requiring a battery and your son being a kid. He will leave it on and run down the battery guaranteed, ;)and won't have it when he needs it. |

RE: Slug gun scope ?
Just a quick follow-up.
I put a Nikon 2-7 pro-staff on that 20 gauge and we sighted it in; what a sweet gun that is. It's got the heavy barrel and I think with alittle more experience my son will be driving tacks with it (and hopefully taking a deer or two !) The scope is very clear and the light gathering is very good. I haven't compared it to the Leupold VX-III on my rifle but it sure beats alot of other scopes I've glanced thru. Happy hunting !! |

Zeiss "Conquest" 3-9X40S
