What is the best deer rifle? I have a 30-06 right now which is old and was my grandpas so im gonna put that rifle away so now im looking for a new one. Which one do you guys think would be best?

A 308 or 3006 will take anything up to Elk effectively. If the 3006 does not give you problems nowa new one will serve you well.

There is no "best" deer cartridge.However cartridges such as the 25-06,6.5x55 and 7mm-08 etc. are fine choices.You can use a more powerful cartridge,but it simply isn't necessary to hunt deer.

Are you talking about rifle, or caliber?

If it's the former, go wherever you can fondle the most guns simultaneously, & go with the one that fits you best, and/or the one that's "neatest" to you: bolt, pump, lever, semi-auto, etc. Then see what calibers it's offered in.

Ifyou're seeking opinions on caliber, pick anything from a .243 on up, & it'll kill deer fine. (I'm kind of looking at picking up something in a .260 or 7mm-08, myself: negligable recoil, & pokes a bit wider hole than a .243.)

A .308 if you want more power than a .243, which is great for taking down whitetails and mulies. .243 can also be used as a varmit rifle.
