Ballistics Chart

Nieghbor has a 30-378 Weatherby that He's trying to sight out to 1000yds without shooting dozens of rounds( 20 rnds cost about $ 80.00). Does anyone know where I can find a chart for bullet drop on this rifle?

If he is so concerned about the cost of ammunition,he bought the wrong cartridge. The only way to know where the bullet will impact at a given distance is to shoot the load in your rifle. However the calculation below will provide ballpark estimates.Realize that in order for the calculation to be at all close, you will need to know the exact velocity that the load produces in the specific gun.Using velocities posted by a manufacturer in place of the actual velocity can result in very large errors as distances increase. As well you need to select the exact bullet used or the exact ballistic co-efficient for the bullet that you are using.Be aware that manufacturers published B.C. are often not accurate for your conditions.
If you had posted out to 400 yards or so,small errors would not be so significant, but at 800 yards or 1000 yards,a small error can result in a big difference in the point of impact.

You gotta sit down at the bench, grit your teeth and take your pounding. There is no substitute for firing at the range you want zerod at. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to go through that.

To be able to effectively shoot at 1000 yards, I would say that you would have needed to shoot about 5,000 rounds(probably more), and quite a few years of experience. Then maybe you might be able to shoot that far. Tom.

I have been trying for 4 years just to hit a 4x8 target with 3 shots in a rowat 800 yards.

I hope its only targets he is planning on shooting at 1000 yards. If not I would suggest waiting for the lazer to be perfected.

I really do find it amusing when people buy such a cartridge and thinkthat it will transform them intoa long distance shooter. The reality is that it will take a great deal ofshooting to even learn the trajectory or this cartridge, thenmuchmore shootingto learnhow to judge the effects of wind at long ranges. Then you need a long distance rangefinder and even more practise to develop the shooting skills necessary to accurately place bullets at 800 or 1000 yards. At $80 per box this guy better plan on spending thousands of dollars if he intends on being a capable shot at 1000 yards.

I dont blame him for trying everybody has to that that first step. I think he will find it alot of fun and that he will want to work up to that range. He will find that cartridge is expensive to play with who knows he may be aware of that and can afford it. I choose the 6.5x284 ,it cost alot to build but I was aware of that and could aford it. Play hard you only live once!!!
