has anybody purchased guns online and how has it worked out, i'm specifically looking for shotguns...browning/benelli/remington...

generally the guns have to be shipped to a FFL holder also be cautious when buying guns online since you dont always know the actuall condition of the gun.

I just had a great experience buying a Savage in .22lr from an online dealer.

I thought it was weird that they wanted me to "guarantee" my purchase with a CC number, then send them a check.However, I did so, to collect the extra 3% savings they were offering as a cash discount. They then waited for my check to clear before shipping the gun, but I guess I can't blame them if they're taking orders from everywhere.

When the gun didn't show up at the dealer I'd specified for the transfer, I was gettingpi$$ed. I contacted the online retailer by email, who, within an hour, got back to me with all the shipping info. from UPS that showed the local guy had had my gun for nearly 9 days!

In short, the only problems I had were from the local folks!

I got a great price on a gun I'm well-pleased with. The place I used had an impressive selection, and their prices are 30% to 40% below the local outlets.

The only problem is that I think I'm going to bebuying lots more guns!

They're in Paris, KY, so I'll bet the shipping to IL would be 2 days, tops.

I'm not sure what the price differential would be on the low end shotguns, like the base 870's: there's probably not a whole lot of extra room on a $250 pump. But if you're looking farther up the price scale, they might save you a buck or two.

I'm looking at a Savage 14 Classic rifle, and they're about $100 cheaper than the places around here (that don't even have them!). Your local place will probably charge $25 for doing the transfer for you. On the plus side, though,you'llsave the tax! (Unless IL somehow gets their paws into it...)

I have bought several online, here are some good tips.
1. Pick up the phone and call the guy, listen carefully to what he says.
2. Ask alot of questions. Ask for references, NRA condition, 3 day return policy, where is
he located. You get the idea.
3. Always pay with traceable Cashier's check that has his name printed on it.
4. Ask about shipping insurance.
5. Once you know his location, ask if you can pick up the firearm, he has no idea where
you are calling from.
6. You get the idea, the more info. the better.
