Winchester 1400 ranger
 

Anyone heard of this shotgun, itsa semi-auto. I found one at a gun shop for about 200 and am thinking of pickin it up. Ive been trying to doa lil research on it but have'nt come up with much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

my brother owns a model 140. i think its the older version of the 1400. it only shoots 2 3/4 shells. it did have a long break in period but is a good small game and a great deer killer with buckshot.

I'm not sure about the 1400 ranger but I have owned a Winchester 1400 12ga for 38 years. I have killed deer with it and still shoot doves and skeet on occasioneven though I also have a Beretta 39120gaand Winchester SX2 Lightwieght 12ga(both of which I bought because they reminded me ofnewer versions ofthe 1400). I have probably ran through 5000+ rounds in the gun and had abouta6-10 jams. They all camewhile shooting dirty discount store1 oz field loads while dove hunting. Never jammed while shooting premium stuff.

I really liked the gun. It was ahead of its time with the light weight alloy receiver - my dad had an Remington 1100 but I always grabbed the 1400 because of thelighter weight. I will say that if you get the 1400 youshould keep it clean and the bolt lubed for maximum fun. The gas systemdoesn't like residue buildupand if you don't do a good job resizing reloads, they to can be a problem. In short this isn't really a gun to enter a critical clays competition with but if you want a lighter field gun and don't minda quick cleaning after a hunt or round of clays withyour buddies, it should serve you well.

I have a 1400 Winchester Ranger
 

It was given to me by my dad about 15 years ago, I think. Now I'm 45 and it sits on a shelf. It's a great shotgun; I'm no expert on guns (yet) but she is a great dove gun here in the Dallas Tx. area.

I've owned a 12 gauge 1400 for 20+ years. Several thousand rounds through it and never a problem. For the price you can't go wrong.

I've owned several 1400's over the last 30 or so years. Never had any more trouble with them than anyone else has had with anything else. They're just a tad more bulky or clubby than some of the newer autoloaders, but mine have always functioned just fine. Mine are chambered for 2 3/4" only also.
