buckshot and choke selection?

Best way is to get afew sheets of cardboard or BIG paper and shoot 'em to see how you're particular gun does. Usually buckshot doesn't like to be choked too much. That may mean its does fine with a full choke or even better with a modified. You'll just have to find out. Are you using normal lead buckshot?

NC,

I've always had good results with an IC choke. Using 3 1/2 00Buck from Winchester or Federal, I can get four or five pellets on a paper plate at 50 yds every time. It is very effective on deer at this distance.

I agree with the choke selection. A full choke and #00 buck might be too constricting (not to mention scary! [&:])

For the tightest, I'd go with a modified choke. #00 buck and even #000 buck is some nasty stuff! Imagine twelve .32 caliber rounds all penetrating at once!

First, I will recommend that you get some butcher paper and set it up at 40 yards to see what really works for you. Then, I will say, buckshot works best with cylinder bore. Go to IC if you have to. It is not like a tall column of small birdshot that takes to shaping. The more choke, the more stringers you will get with buckshot.

But do your own test.

I use Buckshot with open choked shotguns myself, I use old realestate signs at 30m to pattern them. I also like SSG (18 pellet)over SG (9 pellet) buckshot.
