Finally made my decision and put money down ona new Rem. 700 BDL w/ Leupold 3-9x40 for $964 (tax included). Figured I should bite the bullet, no pun intended, and just do it. Is this a good deal?

That sounds about right. If you look on the Walmart website, BDL's are going for $625 without a scope, base or rings. Only way to get one cheaper would be to find a used one.

Forgot to say that it's a lefty bolt action in 30.06.

I bought that same rifle about 35 years ago. I shot it until the barrel was shot out then had it it rebarreled to 280 Rem. I have had the BDL in several other calibers as well. Great rifles.
