What could we do without?
I was looking through the manuals this morning for a load for the 270WSM. It came to me again that we are swamped with caliber choices that are so close to each other that its a wonder how they all survive. Just the choices in 7MM and 30 caliber are mind boggeling. We all have our favorite calibers but what could we make do with?
Being a pretty avid hunter I would always have to have my 22 Rimfire and 12 Ga BPS. but favorites aside I think a 223 for varmits, a 280, for all the deer family and a 416 Rem Mag for the big bears and the possible trip accross the pond, would fill my needs pretty well. Add My 44 Mag Bisley Hunter and my Ruger 45 Auto and maybe a 22 pistol for practice, That should be plenty. I am sure my wife would agree.;). Of course, this is only a pipe dream and it will never happen.:D |
RE: What could we do without?
I see the same, the one bullet that I think could go away is the 6.8 SPC,other than a military round it has no use as a hunting round.
For what I could live with would be 1-22 LR (small game) 1-.223(varmits) 1-25-06(Deer-Antelope) 1-.338 win mag(Deer-Elk-bears) 1-458 lott(Moose-Buffalo-daughters boy freinds) 1-12 ga(Birds and more boy freinds) That I could survive with but not live with. BBJ |
RE: What could we do without?
My own personal minimumcolectionwould be
22 for plinking 12 guage shotgun for birds 223 for varmints 25wsm for deer, pronghorn, sheep 300winmag for moose and elk Out of the manycartridges that we have to choose from, there are a few that I will never have any use for, those being: the 6mms the 6.5mms the 270s the 358s |
RE: What could we do without?

12 gauge - birds .35 Whelen - bigger than deer game 6.5x55 Swede - deer sized game Oh wait, that's what I already have [8D] |
RE: What could we do without?
I sure could do without allot of calibers that I do have, but what’s the fun in that. If I had to have the minimum it would have to be , 22 lr, 12 ga. and a rifle for deer like the 6.5 or 270 or 7 mm , just like the old days...

RE: What could we do without?
I think it's cool that everyone agrees that we can't live without a 22lr and 12ga. Out of all the fast, powerful, super duper cartridges to choose from, no one can live without these 2. Awesome.
