MY DAD IS......
 

My dad,
Is wanting to buy me a deer rifle for Chirstmas.
I am have a hard time deciden on what kind to look at???
I will be hunting short range to long range.
I will be hunting Deer , Maybe Bear and Elk one day.
What kinda gun should i look at ???
I was thinking about a 7mm mag but i am afriad that it will mess up meat on a Deer really bad at 50 yards or under or 50 yards or longer.
Also i have a thought on a 7mm-08 is this a gun with a 7mm bullet with a 308. casen???An is a 7mm-08 a good short and long range Gun...
I have also thought of about a 308., 243. , 270. , and a 7mm Stw...
What is a 7mm STW and is it a bigger gun than a 7mm mag...
Please help me out on this guyz need some help on what kinda of gun to look at???

About any of the calibers you mentioned will do fine on deer, if you plan on elk or bear hunting stick with the larger calibers, Personally I think a 270 is a great all around gun, but then so is the 06 the 7 mm, the main thing is get the one that you like and feel comfortable shooting.

i use a .270 Win. a 7mm-08 is a great gun. .270 is my fave,but an .30-06 or 7mm Rem Mag is great. .308 too.

All that you mentioned will be good for deer. If you plan on hunting bear and elk you might want to go with a .300 WSM or something of that nature that can push a heavier bullet.

Oh yeah, the STW stands for Shooting Times Western and it is bigger than the 7 mag. It is a hoss and is very flat shooting with a good bit of recoil.
