44 mag or specials for hunting???
 
I was at the gun shop last night and the guy told me that specials would do exactly the same as the mags for hunting load.

It just did not sit right with me....Is he way off or am i???

While the .44 special can hold its own, it can not perform on par with a .healthy .44 mag. load. Depending on what you are hunting the .44 special may be suitable but it can not fill the role of a .44 mag.

A factory loaded 44 spl. and a factory 44 mag. are worlds apart!!

Not even close. Even though you can get the .44 special fairly hot with handloading, there's still not a comparison between the two.

In our state the 44 Special would not be legal where the 44 Mag is. Factory loads must produce 500 lb ME in handguns. I shoot Specials for practice and carry them in my Ultra-lite Taurus for defense. Against human varmits that is.
