Is it true that bolt action guns are more accrate then semi
-auto, and why?

To an extent, yes. The semi looses accuracy by the way it kicks the sheel out as you shoot. The bolt action keep it locks tight and consistant, which consistancy means everything in shooting. But semis are plenty accurate enough for any average shooter to be able to tell the difference.

Rob, lots of things make a gun accurate or inaccurate. I think the biggest reason a bolt action is usually more accurate than and auto is the more positive locking of the bolt on a bolt action. The bolt is more likely to be in exactly the same spot with every shot.

I am quite sure somebody out there can write you a book, literally, about the question you just ask.

A note, We have sighted in rifles for 10+ years as a service of our gun shop. I have seen some autos that shot almost perfect, rivaled bolt actions, but over all for what ever REASONS bolt actions in practicallity are more accurate with the least amount of work.

While some semi autos are more accurate than somebolt actions,on average the bolt actions are more accurate.

Man,

You ask tough questions, Can you give me a situation with a shotgun? There is only one or two bolt action sotguns that I know of, and they are not common. Marlin is the one that comes to mind, but seems there was a 410 or two.

In general what makes a gun accurate is doing EVERYTHING exactly the same every time. More moving parts make this harder, more pieces fitting together increase tolerances, etc.

I dont think its really a difference worth worrying about in a shotgun. The choke is what makes the final judge in a shotgun's groupinganyways.
