OptiLock rings/polymer inserts

Anyone have troubles with the polymer inserts in OptiLock rings and gloss scopes? I had a gloss Elite 3200 installed in them and it "slid" forward under recoil. I had tightened the OptiLock rings at least as tight as any others I've used and this was the first time I had a problem. (I've also used Millets and Conetrols on this rifle; a Sako in 300WM.)

Just wondering if more torque is required for the polymer inserts to grip properly or if I'd be better off using a matte scope with a rougher surface. Thanks!

I can see how that happens. I had trouble with a 300rum and burris signatures rings and inserts. I had to go back to leupold rings and lapping the rings to hold it.

I have the optilocks on my sako STW, but its with a silver scope and it stays in place good. I can see how you would have trouble with a gloss however.

I've never had such trouble, but then I've never had a gloss scope mounted in the Optilocks. Make sure you degrease the scope and plastic inserts with something like Gun Scrubber. Be careful with the inserts as the Gun Scrubbercandissolve them. Spray it on a patch first and then lightly wipe the inside surface of the inserts once or twice. This will actually make theinsert ever so slightly tacky, which should help.

Personally, I like the Conetrols a little better than the Optilocks. They hold likea vise and are not as high as the Optilocks. I've got 3-9x40 Conquests on both of my Sakos. One is mounted in low Optilocks, the other in medium Conetrols. The scope mounted in the Conetrols is lower to the barrel and more to my liking.

You could always contact Beretta customer service and see what they would suggest if all else fails... www.berettausa.com

I've not had any issues what-so-ever with my Optilock rings / inserts. But, the scope (Kahles CL) is a matte finish not gloss. Plus it's on a 30/06 that isn't a fierce recoiling rifle with 180 grainers anyway. Be cautious on over tightening so as not to damage the tube. What about rubbing some fine steel wool on both sides of the inserts to "rough it up a little" then re-installing? Just a thought.

Thanks for the responses. I certainly didn't think it was a common problem but I'm dissapointed the OptiLocks didn't hold up the first time out...I wasn't expecting any issues with them at all.

I put the gloss scope on another rifle anyway. When I get another I think I'll try some degreaser on the inserts.
