.500 S&W rifle?
I was just wondering if anybodys had any experience with a single shot .500 S&W mag rifle. I sawone on wal-marts website and I'm trying to figure out how it would do overall. I think its a cool idea but idk it may be a POS. I think New England arms makes it im not sure though.

RE: .500 S&W rifle?
They are a pretty good rifle for the money. The ones that use rimmed cases are pretty reliable and accurate guns. I thought about the 500 S&W but I already have that rifle in 45-70 so there would be very to gain. I may still get the urge to try one. The ones who have reported on them don't seem to be getting much gain in velocity with the longer barrel. If this is the case, the 45-70 would probably perform better. IMO.

A box of cartridges will cost more than the gun! I have one in 45-70 and a MZ loader and like them both, however I have not found anything I need the 45-70 for yet. It is one of those wallflower guns in the safe.

RE: .500 S&W rifle?
I have read ( another site )that the 500 S&W in the Handie rifle will loosen up after a few thousand full power rnds .
Not sure how many of us will have the $$ to shoot several thousand full power rnds . I have one . All I shoot are reloads , all but 30 or so have been reduced cast bullet loads . A 400 gr cast bullet at 1200 fps is easy to shoot and accurate Johnch |
