I don't have the measurments handy but I think it could be done. Check with Rosko!!! The bolt face would have to be altered. A much cheaper way to go would be just to Improve the 25-06 to AI. The velocity of the two is nearly idenical and brass is much cheaper and easier to find. I believe the 25-06 Ackley Improved casings can be made from 25-06, 270 or 30-06.

My question is...... why? There isn't alot of difference....seems like a huge waste of money to me. Regards, Rick.

according to chuck hawks :

Cartridge (Wb + type)
MV (fps)
V @ 200 yds
ME (ft lb)
E @ 200 yds

.25-06 Rem. (120 Sp)
2990
2484
2382
1644

.257 Wby. Mag. (120 Sp)
3305
2801
2910
2091
looks to me like there is a big difference. this is using the same bullet weight.

Well to start with, your ballistics for the 25-06 are with a 24" barrel while your 257 ballistics are with a 26" barrel.Since the barrel length will stay the same,You can take 80fps tp 100 fps off of the difference. Then you have to remember that weatherby factory loads are very hot while remington factory loads are fairly conservative. In other words, with both cartridges hand loadedloaded to design pressure with equal length barrels, the actual velocity difference will be around 150fps on average rather than the 300fps in your comparison.

i don't handload. so is it still going to not make a difference?

If you will be using factory loads, the difference will be around 200fps in return for spending twice as much for a box of ammunition.

The 25-06 Improved will add 150-200 fps to the 25-06,
