Default .40 Baby Eagle Problem

I have a .40 Baby Eagle. I bought it used and after about 200 rounds the safety got harder and harder. Finally it completely jammed in the fire position. Has anyone seen this problem? I stripped down the entire gun, but I can't get the rear sight off to expose the safety mechanism. I'm probably going to send it in to Magnum Research to have them repair it.

Default RE: .40 Baby Eagle Problem

I'm assuming its a slide mounted safety version not the frame mounted safety version.the problem is not in the slides portion of the safety, theres a lever on the rear of the frame infront of the hammer (this lever is your culprit) when the safety is engaged a cam on the under side of the slide presses this lever which disengages the sear from the hammer which causes the hammer to drop.

this is a reason why I dont like guns with slide mounted safeties with auto decockers because this is a common problem with alot of guns with slide mounted safety auto decockers especially if they are not properly lubricated.

Any compotent gunsmith can easily fix the problem. or you can DIY if you feel comfortable tearing into the trigger mechanism and putting it back together correctly.
