upgrading a M93 Mauser, yes or no

I picked up a Muaser a few months ago for $100. Model93 in 7x57 with all original parts and matching serial # on action, bolt, guard, stock and barrel shroud.

Part of me would like to keep it all original and just clean up the few blemishes on it. (minus where the name of the soldier is cut into the wood under the barrel shroud) but at the same time I wouldn't mind updating it and making a decent hunter out of it. If nothing else, those old battle sights stink and I wouldn't mind having a peep added to the receiver but I hesitate to have it drilled and tapped to mount one.

What do you think:
"Preserve" it as history,
do enough to make a shooter out of it,
or go all the way and use it to build a custom?

I'd leave it as is..They won't be making any more of them..If you want a peep, there is a sight on the market called a Mojo Sight ...It replaces the issue rear sight with no permanent modification of the firearm..You can install it and then return the rifle to it's original condition by simply removing it and re-installing the issue sight...I have one on a M48A Yugo Mauser and it works very well..

The M93 is not as strong an action as the later M98..It should be perfectly safe with factory loads or handloads in the same pressure levels as factory loads...

Don't butcher it! If you want to build a sporter on amilitary action, BUY one of the many actions available, or buy a lower end (condition wise) 1898 rilfe.

I'd preserve it and just leave it alone.
