which slugs should I use
I have a rem.870 express magnum with a 4x32 scope 26"fully rifled barrell.
Should I use a rifled slug or a saboted slug or is there somthing else I need to look at?

Hi Scott, I happen to shoot that same gun, I do however, have a Hastings barrel on mine. The best ammo is the one that shoots best from your particular "buckbuster". I can shoot 1.5 to 2.5in groups at 75yds. It depends on so many variables. Try 3-4 different types of sabots and go with the one your gun likes best!

If you want to put your rifled barrel to good use, then shoot sabots. Like bb99 said, shoot a few different kinds to see what your gun likes best. Remington, Winchester, Federal all make good sabots.

I shoot the exact same set-up and I'd strongly recommend that you go with saboted ammo. Like some of the others here said, tho, you need to try several to see which one works best for you. One bit of advice I can give you, tho, is that it is my opinion that there is no need for you shoot a 3" shell. I've noticed no differnce at all in knock-down power, but I HAVE noticed decreased accuracy at the range with 3" shells. I think it may be partly due to me dreading the recoil so much, but why suffer when the 2 3/4" shells do the job? My gun likes the Winchester 2 3/4" shells best. Also, if you dont have time to go to the range to fully test several different brands of ammo, you ought to know that you should be able to get "pie-plate" accuracy with just about any sabot out to 75 yards minimum. Good luck!!

My 1100 with the Hastings barrel will put 5 Hornady H2K slugs inside a 3 inch circle at 200 yds.
Winchester has the Partitions and Platinum tips, Remington the new Core Loct, all of which are similar to the Hornady.
If you're shooting about 100 yds, Federal Barnes Coppers and Remington Copper Solids are good.
I quit using the hourglass lead sabots because I had 2 break at the waist and slide up along the shoulder blade.
