Just picked up a sps stainless today.$499. plus tax.If it quits raining going to try it out in the morning.If it shoots as good as a 22/250 Igot in the blue model($419 plus tax) I will be tickled.

You'd probably be best off buying a used rifle, in good condition. You could get a much nicer gun this way, within your budget, and it wouldn't drop in value when you drove off with it.
Also, don't worry so much about caliber. Find a good deal, on a rifle that fits you well, from 243 up, and you'll be in great shape.

Excellent advice from ths78. Make sure the gun fits first, and as long as it fits well, is chambered in a round that is easily obtainable and comfortable for you to shoot, a used but well maintained gun is the best buy around.

if your looking for a good rifle with the big $$$ take a look at savage. They are accurate and priced very well.
I have a 30-06 savage and love the gun. Had it for 2 years now and have not 1 complaint.

Put a scope on the 270 sps,zeroed it in on paper @100 yds.Shot a one holer useing factory federal 130 gr fusion that a fellow gave me.Shot a 1/2 in group useing 90 gr reload.Think it is going to do as good as the 22/50.
Tried some factory 140's and 150's but they didn't do so well,the 130's is as heavy as I want to shoot though.

Buy a Savage. They are the best deal for your money. Tough, accurate, cheap........
