Muzzle brake on Remington 700 300 Win. Mag.

Here's my question for all of the gun wizards out there. I am looking to trade forthe gun described in the subject line above. It is a stainless model with the detachable magazine that Rem doesn't make any longer, except in the SPS or XCR. The barrel is, or was, standard 24" length before the muzzle brake was installed. With the muzzle brake it is @
25 1/2". I know the barrel can be cut and recrowned, but I am afraid it will be too short and will affect the velocity and accuracy of the gun if this is done. I really like the gun and would love to have it, but I don't want the muzzle brake. Do I have any options as far as doing away with the muzzle brake and not messing up the gun?!? Please advise.

Your going to have a 23" 300 win mag.. I think the velocity might not be a problem but the blast will be greater. If properly cut and crowned I don't see any problems in the accuracy department.

Just buy a sleeve,or have one made to cover the threads after the muzzle brake is removed, and leave the barrel 24".

Find out who put the brake on and see if it can be taken off and maybe that companymight offera threaded cap that can be installed to protect the threads. I myself would just leave it on and deal with the noise. Plus you will get a reduction in recoil. If you decide to ever get rid of the rifle this can add to the price you get for it. Most aftermarketmuzzlebrake installations arent cheap.
