Better check on policy if shipping the powder and primers with the rifle. I think they fall under hazardous materials and can not be sent with the rifle. It may cost you more to ship them than they are worth. Also, I think since the rifle has to be registered you may have to go through a dealer to ship that and it will probably cost you a fee for that also. Better to play it safe and make sure.

Actually a Muzzleloader does not have to be registered. I will be shipping the accessories and the gun all seperate. The accessories will be in one box and the gun in another box. I have already checked with the post office and all that stuff, but thanks for the advice anyway.

The encore falls under ATF regulations and is designated a firearm because it can be converted to a rifle or pistol that shoots loaded ammunition and has to have its serial number logged. Some of the earlier NEF rifles fell under the same law because they could be converted also. Did you have to register it when you bought it new or was it used from an individual? I know that it stipulates from most retailers and wholesalers that a form 4433 if im correct on the number, is required to be filled out once the muzzleloader is shipped to a dealer or ffl holder. I saw the sportsmans guide slip up and sell some one time but havent seen them since. If you can slip it by whoever is shipping it , then I guess you dont have to worry about it. Like I said it just pays to play it safe nowadays with all the gun fanatics out there trying to take them away from us.

I believe AmericanPioneer is correct. The encore framehas to go through a FFL.

Not trying to get into your business, just don't want you getting into trouble.

WOW, thank you guys a bunch!!! I just double checked and the guy who told me that i didn't have to was wrong. Thanks for all the info, so if i sell this does that mean that i have to ship it to an FFL licensed dealer??? and then the buyer picks it up there or what???

Thanks for any info!

If an individual from the state you reside in buys it then it depends on your state laws. If he picks it up more than likely no. If it is shipped it will have to go to someone with a FFL especially if it is to another state. Here in west virginia I could just sell it to whoever wants to buy it as long as they pick it up from me and they look like they can be trusted with a firearm(no convict types)or are of legal age. Getting the buyer to sign areceiptdocumentingthe transaction of whoyou sold it to and whenis always a good idea. When shipping out of state or to an individual in state it will have to go to a ffl. Alot of people would probably just tell you to ship it without the company of your choiceknowing it, but then if they find out you could be fined and possibly servejail time and have the rifle confiscated. They sre getting real strict on just muzzleloaders only.UPS and the other shipping companies in my area wont ship one unless going tomanufacturer for repairs, back to the company you bought it from, or to a holder of an FFL. Its getting to be a pain. If someone is interested in buying from you just tell them to find a ffl holder in their area then a signed copy will have to be sent to where you ship it out from. I think it has to be a ffl holder also. Dont quote me though. It may be possible just to ship to the buyers ffl holder if the shipping company you use understands it is a legal business the rifle is going to. Need to ask the shipper to be definite.
Also when I mentioned the powder and primer thing they do fall under hazardous materials and have to be shipped as such. There are special charges assigned to such materials because they are explosives and if they detect it in theshipping process and it isnt labeled such, you could get fined there also or worse. The laws today are just so confusing but please play it safe. Sell the primers and powder locally if you can like in classifieds or something. We have a paper here that has a firearms section for just such things. This will take the heat off of you and keep you out of trouble. Hope this helps!!! Good Luck!!!

Also, it may be easier to find someone local that wants the frame rather than the whole gun. The frame is the only part that requires an FFL.

Then you could just sell all of the other pieces (barrel, stock, forearm)on here or ebay with no problem.
