Winchester Model 1890 Pump .22
 

I am trying to help a friend sell this little rifle. I'll give the details I know and provide pictures upon request. The rifle is a Winchester Model 1890 Second Model Takedown Frame in .22 WRF, Ser# 179XXX. He said the Cody Firearms Museum dated it at 1899. It has the 24" octagon barrel and something unique about the stamping on the top of the barrel. I'm open to thoughts on this but going to research it also. It is stamped with both a Winchester and Browning Bros. stamp on it. Gun is in excellent mechanical condition, metal is ingreat shape with only a few minor dings and wood isin great shape. I would rate the metal and the wood both at 90%+. The blueing however is not original. It was case colored anda family member had itredone with a standard blueing so I don't know where to put the value because of it. Any suggestions on what this does to the value? He's looking for good reasonable offers. I would say because of the rebueing maybe down to 50% or 60%, but don't know. Thanks.

with the new blueing it does take away from the value the gun might be worth at the most 100-175...

I think you may have the wrong rifle there. Are you looking at theThird Model Take down instead of the Second Modeltake down? Your price sounds like a third model price. This is the second model and 50% valueon it is about $1500. High end price is around $4000. I know the re-blueing takes away from it, but not that much. Took it to two local pawn brokers and a gunsmith. The pawn shops were willing to give $850 and $875and the gunsmith valued it between the 40% and 50% value if he had it to sell. The metal and wood on the gun are in excellent condition which helps out. No pittingin the metal or cracks in the wood. Just a few little dings here and there. After having the rifle looked at I think my buddy would be willing to take $1000 for it.
