I personally find the CZ Redhead to be the best of the "affordable" O/U shotguns. They point real nice and seem to be fairly reliable. However, I was looking over a 1959 Browning Superposed the other day . . . . . where has that level of workmanship gone?

My brother and I got stoeger condor supremes last year, i've hunted mine for 2 seasons almost every weekend and shot trap once a week for about a year and i love the gun, its a good gun for a good price, the finish on mine scratched somewhat easily if i slid it on our old dog box but a few other guys at the gun club got 1 and they all liked it too. but if you want a field gun its a good way to go because your not out alot of money if you scratch it up. They also have alot of recoil with bigger shells but if you get it ported that helps alot.

I agree with hitting the used rack at a good, reputable gun shop/store. I know personally that a store in my area has quite a few O/U's sitting there. Ask for a professional inspection and / or warranty period. You can probably pick up a GOOD quality gun at a fraction of what you would pay new.
If you're not worried about getting the factory box and documentation with it, this would be a good way to go. Been there, done that.

I bought the Condor but it wasn't the extreme. Beautiful wood...burled pattern. I returned the gun after cleaning factory oil/grease off. I took the chokes out and when I tried to put them back in, I could not get one of them back in... no way... no how. It kept wanting to cross thread. I have never had a problem like that with the remingtons. The other issue was not being able to use a full choke for goose hunting...or turkey hunting if you're into that. I never fired a shot with it so I can't say what it would be like. If I were considering a budget 20G I might reconsider but I'd look around first.
