most accurate factory rifle?
 

Hey guys, new to the board. I'm from Colorado and I hunt everything I can, but specialize in Mule deer and Elk.
The country I have hunted in the past is dark timber, with close quarters shooting. I use a Ruger 77 International, with an 18 inch barrel and chambered in 308. It is a beautiful gun, and its accuracy is adequate, but I've recently started hunting an area that might require longer shots.
I have decided to purchase a 7mm mag and I'm wanting the most accurate rifle I can find under $600. Looks and weight are not a factor, just accuracy and dependability. The Tikka Whitetail hunter looks to be the best choice from where I'm sitting, but I'd like your opinions. Thanks for the help.

I would buy a ruger M77, accually, i am buying a ruger M77 in 7mm, ill let you know how it works out.

Take a look at a Tikka they don't leave the factory unless they shoot groups under 1 in at 100yds. They don't guarantee it because most people can't shoot that good.

Why work when you can hunt???? Heck why work at all!!

I picked up a Rem. 700 BDl deluxe this fall in 7mm Rem Mag, it shot good out of the box. I have since down a trigger job and it shoots great. I have heard Tikka's are accurate, but since I am a lefty the only tikka looked cheap in the finish department so I opted for the Rem. I have a abolt medallion and it shoots pretty darn nice as well.

I think a lot depends on the guy holding the rifle and the optics on the top don't hurt either.

get the tikka, you won't be disapointed. smooth trigger, smooth action, great accuracy and less then a Rem 700 not counting the trigger job, action job, etc..... <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

One more vote for the Tikka. Mine are very accurate.

I think the Browning with the BOSS system would be hard to beat. You can actually fine tune your rifle to match the ammunition you are using. I don't think you benefit a lot from this system if you handload, though.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'm definately going with the Tikka. My ruger 77 is a beautiful gun, but it has a 7 pound trigger pull, and it is unadjustable. Plus the barrel is short, light, and extremely sensitive to heat. My rem 700 bdl 22-250 is nice but not very well balanced. My father has a pre 64 Model 70 Winchester that is quite possibly the finest rifle I've ever shot, but I have no experience with the current model 70s. From what I've read and from all of your opinions, the tikka is a great choice. Thanks again for the help.

just bought a kimber .22

shoots .155 at 50yards. 5 shot string.

Kimber makes rifles in various calibers. Don't know about 7mm though...
