New 30-30 Hornady Bullet

I was just reading an article on the new pointed nose Hornady bullets for the 30-30. The claim is that it pushes the effectiveness of the 30-30 out to 300 yards. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this new round?

Claims are easily made.......

This might be an advantage but I'm still in the camp that says if you want a 300 yard gun then get one.....the 30-30 is not and will likely never be a 300 yard gun.....mostly the leveractions typically aren't that accurate given better projectile performance.

So, have you used this new round?

I have not used it, but I read that ad too.
If that's the one with the soft flexible polymer tip, then the claim makes sense to me.

The pointed tip increases the aerodynamics of the bullet, so it's more efficient in the air, and the flexible tip makes it safe for use in tube-fed guns like lever actions.

How much it makes a difference is a BC math game that is not my strong suit. I'll leave that to someone who knows more or has shot the thing.

i will be a able to tell you in the next few weeks. I bought a box and sighted my trusty old marlin 30-30 in at 150 yards. this should put me about -1.5" at 200yards and -18" at 300yards. I say Again SHOULD put me there. If it holds out to 200 i will be impressed. I like my 30-30 and this just made a good cheap and powerfull rifle that much better.

I think their ballistic claims are made because of remaining energy and such. Those claims should be accurate. It remains to be up to the gun and the hunter as to if he can place the shot. It still has to hit the vitals. No doubt it will add to the capability of the round by increasing its remaining velocity and energy.
