Corrosion on shotguns

I've heard from a few folks that the low-glare finish on the Remington 870 Express series is somewhat suseptible to rust. Has anyone had similar problems, and what's the best corrosion prevention oil to wipe on exterior surfaces? I've heard CLP, Rem-Oil, and various other things mentioned.

I had the same problem with an NEF when I moved from TX to FL. I'm sure having it packed in a U-haul for 3 days didn't help. If you do see any rust hit it ASAP with a little 000 steel wool. Anything that repels water will work. The ones you mentioned will work fine, however one of the best that I have found is Tuf Glide and Tuf Cloth. It was developed for the military spec ops and will withsttand temperature extremes from several hundred degrees to much below freezing. Best of all it contains no silicones. I have heard what it actually is but I don't remember. I use it on all my guns and knives. Note: i had not treated the NEF before packing it. All it takes is a quick rub and thats it. Nothing to wipe off or stain your gun cases. I have used the same cloth for years. It comes in it's own resealable bag and has kept mine fresh all this time. Check it out.

I owne one of these 870's. I have found that if I don't take it and clean it as soon as I get back from hunting, it will start to rust. If you clean it and put a little oil it takes care of the problem. If you are out in the field for a few days, make sure you wipe it down really good after every use.

Just wipe it down with remoil or the likes it should keep it nice and clean and prevent rust. Something else I found out that will rust your blued guns is blood. A buddy of mine threw his gun in the cavity of deer, why I don't know!!! Anyways, he forgot about it until the next morning, it had already started to show pittings and rust. I always wipe mine down after a day in the field.
