A cheap .204?

I'm interested in buying a .204 for varmints, is there a cheap model out there that will still shoot straight? I only need one shot so i wouldnt mind a single shot break action, but id prefer a bolt action. i could afford anything up to maybe $400 but not much more.

I bought my brother a 700ADL when bass pro had a special on them for 350. I couldn't beleive it, it was a true 1MOA gun out of box but didn't feed that little round well. I got one in an encore. But let me warn you they are difficult to clean in a encore. You can use a bore guide, and the cleaning rods, even tipton and dewey are still very flimsy so I worry about ruining my throat.

Reading this made me smile thinking back when you were asking about the .204 and I had commented about my 17 HMR, that it was a pain in the butt cleaning. Don’t take this the wrong way. Now I know for sure I’m not getting the .204 and will stick with the 22 caliber...

Yea, looking back I would have got a 22-250. But the 204 is pretty awesome otherwise.

Savage makes and excellent varmit .204 and they will be extremely accurate and resonably priced.

when you say "varmint" rifle, do you mean you want a heavy barrel and beaver-tailed stock, or just something to shoot varmints with? you might struggle to get a full-on varmint rig at that price.

the new Rem SPS is chambered in 204, and howa now chamber for it too in several models. so far, weatherby vanguards and tikka T3's are not available in it. however, since the vanguards are made by howa, if you hold off for a while, they might be available soon.

ad, i got a nef with a heavy barrel in .204, as BC mentioned it is a pain to clean, but i have less than 300$ bucks in it, i took a scope off ofmy 22-250 (6X24X42 tasco), the 250 needs better glass anyway;), i did this to have a "keep out gun". all the other guns i have cost 500+ and stay in the safe, this gun stays out and is for yotes and other vagrants, we raise goats and we always have critters wanting to come "visit"but for 270 somthin bucks i am tickled to death, it is shooting very good groups with factory ammo (less than .750" @100 yrds), have yet to try on yotes, may be able to give a better report after fri/sat on that;)

cheap (everything but ammo;))and fun to shoot

i think what i might do is get a TC Encore muzzleloader, since i need one anyways, and buy a 204 barrel for it. thanks for all of the suggestions though:).
