RE: Handgun Scope on a Win Model 94 Lever Action

WAPRO,
This design is called a scout rifle, One just was returned to one of my custumers, I had drilled and tapped it, altered a weaver base and installed a fixed 2x e.e.r. scope.

Takes some getting used to but after that aquiring your target is very fast.

It is acually comman here in Michigan.

I saw a scout mount somewhere, but it may have been for a Marlin 336. I will see if I can remember where I saw it and let you know.

The long eye relief of a handgun scope would probably not be good on a rifle.???

Jag, the scope sets forward of the receiver so the extra eye relief would work. I don't know if some of the longer eye relief handgun scopes would be too much or not.

I have tried these "Scout" arrangements, and gave them up. I consdider a scope halfway down the barrel to be very cumbersome, clumsy, and easy to damage, particularly on the M94's! There is really no "good" way to scope a top-eject Winchester lever action rifle. I gave up on this and went back to just using good receiver sights! If you insist on a scope on a lever action, use a Marlin so you can put the scope where it should be!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

Frizz, thats kind of what I figured, but won't it take some drilling and tapping? Sounds like it may be more trouble and money than its worth. Just guessing though.

I think this one fits into the existing dovetail and it tightened down with set screws. I wouldn't imagine it being the strongest setup. At least with the setup for the 336 the end of the mount is screwed to the front of the receiver. Personally I wouldn't bother scoping a 30-30 Win unless you just have to. I know some federal reserves make you use a scope. I think a peep sight would let you shoot just about as far as the 30-30 is capable.

I have one of those older Wichester '94 s,and I put an offset mount on it with a Leopold 1x-4x scope.
Just like the scout scope, the offset scope will take a little adjusting to.(if you are used to the overbore scope)
With a little practice,it is just as accurate and just as handy as either of the other type scopes.
Frank
