RE: ought6 + bigbull RE: question about handgun usage, law sucks
In Michigan you can own a handgun at 18 if it is given to you or you buy it from an individual. Because of Federal law you have to be 21 to purchase it from a licensed gun dealer.

RE: ought6 + bigbull RE: question about handgun usage, law sucks
Jesus Christ![:@] Even the state police do not know the laws in their own state. I guess I will do the job of the state police. Bunch of idiots!!!!!!!! [:'(]
Maryland regulates the sale and posession of handguns to all persons by issuing permits to everyone 18 years of age or older. In other words if you want ot be in posession of a handgun in Maryland then you gotta get a permit regardless of your age. This is Marylands code concerning wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun. Word for word as far as your delema is concerned. Article 27 Section 36B.... Handguns. (b)Any person who shall wear, carry, or transport any handgun, whether concealed or open, upon or about his person, and any person who shal wear, carry, or knowingly transport any handgun, whether concealed or open, in any vehicle traveling upon the public roads or parking lots generally used by the public in this State shall be guilty of a misdemeanor; and it shall be a rebuttal presumption that the person is knowingly transporting the handgun; and on conviction of the misdemeanor shall be fined or imprisoned as follows. Punnishment isn't important here. Section 3. Nothing in this section shal prevent any person from carrying a handgun on his person or in any vehicle while trainporting the same to or from the place of legal purchase or sale, ............... skip a few lines concerning businesses............... Nothing in this section shal prevent any person from wearing, carrying, or transporting a handgun used in connection with a target shoot, formal or informal target practice, sport shooting event, hunting, a Department of Natural Resources sponsored firearms and hunter safety class, trapping, dog obediance training class or show, or any organized military activity while engaged in, on the way to, or returning from any such activity. Section 36E (a) Issuance. A permit to carry an handgun shall be issued within a reasonable time by the Secretary fo the State Police, upon application under oath therefore, to any person whome the Secretary finds: (1) Is eighteen years of age or older (2) Has not been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year has been imposed imposed, or if convicted of such a crime has been pardoned or has been granted relief pursuant to Title 18, etc... etc... (3) if the person is less than 30 years of age and who has not been: (i) Committed to any detention, training, or correctional institution for juveniles for longer tha one year after an adjudication of delenquency by a juvenile court; or (ii) Adjudicated delenquent by a juvenile court for: 1. a crime of violence 2. Any violation classified as a felony in this state So forth and so on. Basically if you have not been convicted of any crimes you can apply for a permit is what the rest of it says. You may want to inform the State police of the Maryland Code. It would be nice if the people responsible for enforcing the law actually knew the law. ![]() Here is an aditional link to the NRA-ILA concerning Marylands handgun laws. It tells you how and to whome you need to apply for a permit to carry a handgun. http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/StateLaws.aspx?ST=MD |

getdun, call the state and ask for number for licencing division. Desk Sgt.s don't know the law. And techinically don't have too exactly. They enforce it.
I was trying to get some supposalillegal handguns sorted out cause I was supposed to be working for a three letter goverment agency near the airport. The guns I bought off of friends who lived out of state in 97.I took my guns to the westminster barracks. He sat there, and said, I don't have to do anything I was fine. Then finally after talking to licening, I was fine on all of them but two. And I voluteered registered those two. The problem was they changed the dates in the late 90's when private sales had to go thru the state police. And then the built in trigger locks in 2001 I think. The desk sgt could have got me in trouble. He was nice and admited he didn't know. Don't ever try to call goldenring barracks. They don't even want to talk to you. |
