Lilja barrels
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with Lilja barrels. I'm having my Sako .300 Wby rebarreled to .300 Win mag with a Lilja barrel (based on the gunsmith's recommendation) and would like to hear from others who have experience with this brand. I have none.

RE: Lilja barrels
Lilja barrels will not make you disappointed. Many benchrestshooters can veróify this.

RE: Lilja barrels
I used to know a custom rifle maker in wheatland wyoming that uses these barrels for his customers. He claims they are pretty good but he prefers barrels made from the first couple of months from the tooling. I think they carry a warranty as well. EJ

Solitary, I have had experience with most of the big names. From now on, I go with Lilja or PacNor, maybe shilen. I like krieger and thier single point cut but my last 300RUM was little rough for my taste. Lilja just seems smoother or handlapped better.

RE: Lilja barrels
Eagle338, my reasons for going from a .300 Wby to .300 Win mag are as follows and they're in no particular order of importance:
- The .300 Win mag is close enough in performance to the .300 Wby that I would never, ever be handicapped by the slight difference. - I've put close to 1000 rounds through the rifle and I just want to try something else now. - I really like Lapua brass and they don't make it for the .300 Wby as far as I know. - With the .300 Wby's considerable freebore, I can't seat bullets close to the lands. I want to be able to seat a bullet right up close to the lands if I so desire. - Just in case I were to forget my handloads when I go hunting, I believe .300 Win mag ammo would be easier to find in stores. - I like Redding Competition seater dies and the .300 WbyComp seateris too long to use in my Forster Co-Ax press. However, I believe the .300 Win mag Comp seater will work in the Co-Ax. At least I sure hope so anyway. - I'm just not too crazy about how that double venturi shoulder on the Wby cartridge looks and I don't think it serves any useful purpose. - I tend to think the .300 Win magcartridge is a tad bit more accurate, though I don't have any personal experience to back this up. Well, that just about covers it. If you were really interested in gaining some knowledge about my thought process, then I hope this helped. |
