RE: What about .308?
25-06 over the 308win anyday for me . I have owned a couple but just never cared for the round .

RE: What about .308?
Rock & roll with the .308....the military used this cartridge for years......lots of surplus ammo around & i've taken many deer with a .308!!!!!! Just my humble opinion....Brampton Mike

RE: What about .308?
even though i love the 308win as a nice caliber for deer and black bear.
but i would lean twards the 25-06 since you hunt texas and i would think your shots can get out to 350yds guessing. plus the recoil is pretty light. |
RE: What about .308?
The .308 is a great cartridge; so is the 7mm/08. But of the three you listed, I'd opt for the .257 Roberts, IF the only thing this rifle will be used for is Texas whitetails and smaller stuff like coyotes, etc. If some day elk or bear will be on the menu, then go with the .308!
Keep yore powder dry!! |
RE: What about .308?
I like the 308. It's great for target shooting as well as deer. 20 rounds of surplus ammo for 4 bucks, try and shoot a 25-06 for that cheap.
Guns cause crime, like flies cause garbage. |
RE: What about .308?
I really like that 257 Roberts

RE: What about .308?
I,ve been hunting tough-skinned Northern Wisconsin/UP Whitetails for the last 12 years with .308s. Great calibers, plenty of cheap target ammo and the Hornady Light Magnum 150 grain at 3000fps can really reach out at 300-400 yards. 25-06 is fine for those Florida poodle-sized deer.

RE: What about .308?
i like the 308win. just because i like a little bigger bullet. 150gr. suits the 308win well.
but then again i am looking at the 7mm-08rem myslef. |
RE: What about .308?
Go with the 7mm-08, it will do everything the .308 will with less recoil. I have used the 140 gr. NBT with excellent results on deer.

RE: What about .308?
For something a little different and a little in between, consider a .260 Rem.
